vision statement
Seedling concepts are prompts used to describe the void.
Founder Caitlin Kozman (she/they) is an artist. Their experiences in the world have established a deep understanding of the overwhelming nuances and expansive capacity of the human condition.
Kozman values collaborative methods of discovery, discussing conceptual ideas and finding ways to make these ideas in reality. They envisaged Mad Violet to be the scaffolding for diverse creative needs, whether it be a private curious pursuit, an artistic body of work, or a seedling concept needing to be released into the tangible.
Caitlin Kozman recognises the many, many voices who have informed, taught, inspired, built and developed the foundations of Mad Violet.
Don’t you dare call me Violet!
About mad violet
Mad Violet is named after the matriarch Vi.
In introducing herself they would always say:
“My name is ‘Vi’, Don’t you dare call me Violet.”
See Vi knew their own mind.
Mad Violet began as a seedling concept in a backyard. We were planting Australian native wildflowers at the time. Then we had cups of tea, sitting in quietude gazing at the lake. Then we made bags out of scraps from the fabric bin in the sewing room. Then we did it all again, for years. Vi made me feel like I belonged there, in that garden, by that lake, in that home.
Vi wanted to ensure that us ‘young ones’ felt a sense of belonging and empowerment. Vi taught me to question concepts, rules and boundaries.
Mad Violet exists to continue their legacy, to nurture seedlings, and wildflowers.
Frequently asked questions
What if I'm not an artist or creative?
Mad Violet believes that we’ve created workshops that are designed for all types of humans. Mad Violet asks each individual to reflect on what the word creative means to them. We consider that all humans are inherently creative.
What formats are the workshops accessible in?
The workshops are currently accessible in both audio and written transcripts in the English language
Do I have to be physically still?
During the workshops there will be direction for stillness. This is requested with intention so that you are able to check in with your body and mind at specific intervals to notice how you are responding to the process. While stillness supports this process, we recognise that for some this request can be difficult. Mad Violet encourages you to lean into your own rhythms, using the directions offered only as a suggested guide to your creative process.
Do I need to be in a quiet environment?
Mad Violet suggests you do the workshop in a quiet environment and encourages you to concentrate on the audio of the workshops. However, if you would like to add an ambient soundtrack to the background to support your concentration, we get it and encourage that too! May we suggest some Australian indie-guitar tracks to accompany you? Click Here for Playlist
Do I need to be alone?
It is not necessary to be alone during the workshops. Mad Violet encourages you to let the people around you know that you need to concentrate for the time of the workshop, and to minimise disruptions and distractions. Ultimately, find your most comfortable spot, wherever that may be, and do the workshop from there.
Do I need to write with pen and paper?
Mad Violet encourages you to use pen and paper as this physical form of writing impacts on our minds differently to the use of digital devices. We recognise that for some, digital devices are preferred methods to communicate, and if so, we encourage the use of minimising blocks to your process. Additionally, if you use speech-to-text software or any other means to communicate your mind’s language, please allow yourself to use the method that you know works best for you.
